3 Changes You Can Make To Your Front Yard
Most people like to spend time outdoors when the weather is nice. You can make your yard more pleasing to you, as well as your guests by using outdoor lighting, flowers, and stone pathways.
Outdoor Lighting Placement
When considering outdoor lighting, you should think of the placement. You could consider placing lights down your driveway to make it easier to pull into. This is especially helpful if you have a long driveway. Low voltage fixtures work well to illuminate your driveway casting low lights on the ground. You do not want the lights too bright to make it hard for people to see.
Install lanterns beside your exterior doors, with frosted glass so they do not shine too bright and cause a glare. Recessed lighting works well to light railings, stairs, over garage doors, and decks. If you want to highlight large areas, such as trees, stonework, or your driveway, floodlights work well. Spotlights illuminate areas you want to highlight, such as a statue, shrubs, etc.
Flowers
Flowers can turn a boring yard into something beautiful. Rose bushes in the front of your home look nice. You could plant a new flowerbed, and plant it full of colorful annuals and perennials.
Hang baskets of flowers on your front porch, or place containers full of flowers on each side of the door. Put more than one flower in the containers. Plant something that grows low in the middle, such as petunias, with flowers that cascade over the sides, such as bacopa.
Anywhere in your yard that receives at least six hours of sunlight per day makes a good area to plant flowers. Go outside on a sunny day and see where the sun shines. When visiting a garden center, look on the plant tags to see how much sun they require. Not all flowers need full sun, and some will grow well in the shade.
Stone Path
Stepping stones allow you to stroll through your yard without stepping on the grass. Consider putting multiple pathways, such as one leading to your flower garden, front door, etc. You can mow over the stones, which keeps them easy to maintain. You can have stepping stones made of concrete, natural stone, rubber, etc., with many decorative options.
