Keeping the carpet in your home clean is the easiest with an adult-only household. Introducing pets can make this a little more challenging, but having several kids in the house makes it a tough job at times. It is hard enough to find time to clean when you have work, sleep, family time, and cooking responsibilities. When your kids are the main reason you must get your carpets cleaned, you should bring it to an end. Establishing several rules in the house is the quickest and most effective way to avoid carpet messes.
Eat in the Kitchen or Dining Room
Some kids like to take their easy meals and bring them to their bedroom or the living room. It is important to let them know that this is no longer allowed. Any time food leaves the kitchen or dining room, the chance of it spilling and leading to carpet stains goes from nothing to something. A good idea to encourage this habit is to include it as a prerequisite for getting their weekly allowance in addition with chores.
Only Water Around the House
It is fine for your kids to drink sodas or fruity drinks when they are eating a meal at the dinner table. But you do not want them wandering around the house with a drink that could easily stain the carpet. Letting them carry around water is a good compromise because water is not a problem to clean up. If you are willing to spend a bit of money, you can get sealable drink bottles to prevent spilling. But, you want to keep an eye on your kids to make sure they close the cap after taking a swig.
Stick to Pencils and Crayons
Whether your kids prefer to use markers, crayons, or colored pencils, you should restrict anything with ink from being used inside the home. It is not worth taking a chance on colored markers finding their way onto the floor and causing discoloration to the carpet fibers. Pencils and crayons are far easier to manage and do not come with the same risk, so you can feel better about your kids doing artwork.
Remove Shoes Before Entering
It should not be a hard habit for you to take off your shoes as soon as you get home, especially because you know that you will be the one to clean if you get the carpet dirty. But, your kids may not be thinking about where their shoes should go as they walk through the door after a day at school. It is crucial to remind your kids over and over until they naturally take off their shoes once they walk in the door. This will keep things like gum, sand, and dirt that could damage or stain the carpet away.
Enforcing rules at home is an effective way to keep your carpet clean and avoid early cleaning.
